THE FINDING OF ME, A POEM OF IDENTITY

The Finding Of Me,
A Poem Of Identity

Who am I?
This dark question
Shadowed my days
And stalked my night silence
Like a feral bloodhound.
I sought the answer
Desperate as for an antidote;
I searched for it through
Knowledge but it was vain,
Religion but it was dead,
And counsel but it was mute.
I spite of my searching
For who I am
I found me
There in the words
Of another;
Words that define me
More than the mirror,
Words that time cannot quench
When he spoke of me
On the eve of his death
Before breaking the bread,
And sipping the cup.
He said,
"Greater love
Has no man than this
That he lay down his life
For his friend."
Now I know who I am,
I am loved by Jesus,
My friend.

Gospel of John 15:13
