DEMOGRAPHICS AND OTHER ASSUMPTIONS, A POEM ABOUT PERSON

* * *

Demographics And Other Assumptions,
A Poem About Person

We are fenced in
By barbwire voices
Speaking
In print, pulses, and lights;
Uttering with closed eyes
Their probable logic,
Saying,
"You have this mind
So you think that,
You lack this
So you want that,
You are from here
So you need that,
You did this,
So you will be that,"
And
"You saw this,
You must feel that."
They would make us
In their pixelated images;
And call us by integral figures
To join their economies.
Their invitations attract
But do not entice;
We are not
The sum of surveys,
Calculations,
Focus groups,
Or your assumptions.
Our organic voices are clear
As we shout,
"I have a name-
And I respond to that!"
