Arise,
The church-bell sings a distant carol.
The gull unfolds her wings
Finding invisible lift;
She enters blue filled infinity,
To laze upon unseen trails,
High beyond trees' upraised hands.
Beneath such light burned shadows
I, guided by down locked view,
Stumble over this rocky ground,
And kick through leaves- lifeless and dry.
Heavy flesh and bone that I am
Cannot leave earth's hard boundaries,
Except through light awakened eyes.
Her gull call answers the steeple's song
At last I free my gaze and look above.
