WAITRESS, A POEM OF SEEKING LOVE

* * * * *

Waitress
A Poem of Seeking Love

Black iron chairs set
Under green umbrellas
On the red tile patio
Ready for customers.
Tables burned by the sun-
Their shadows slide
Slowly
From west to east,
She put them out
In the morning
While the coffee
Brewed.
She waited for him,
Hoping for a smile
Or a word;
But
He came with another
Who took the seat that
She dreamt of.
At the end of the day
She brought in the chairs
And closed up shop.
Tomorrow
She will
Drag the chairs out again
And see
Who
Will sit there.
