We need a new
Declaration
Of independence;
Not as a country
To become
Independent
From a tyrant,
Or as a people
To become
Independent
From a nation.
But we need
To become
Independent
Individually;
Independent
Of institutions,
Independent
Of the government,
Independent
Of big business,
Independent
Of the media.
If others wish
To become slaves
To those things
It is their choice,
But as Aesop's dog said,
"A collar is
Too high a price
For
A food dish."
