The Darkened,
A Poem About The View of Mind.
She lives with
Dark corners,
And shadows;
Who taught her to say,
"Keep the curtains
Closed
Against the outside."
Her room is small
Her vision is measured
By its four walls.
She has no compass
For this outside;
Is it big?
Is it lonely?
Is it night?
Or winter?
Do wolves hunt there?
Fearful possibilities!
Nearsighted
She shoves the questions
Under the gloom.
Her hand is still
And the curtain un-drawn;
Choosing
To refuse
The sunshine
And the world,
Because the shadow says,
"It may be dark outside."
But
It may be day-
It may be spring.
